One day after driving in our stangu 2011 Ford Mustang GT we pulled into the driveway, got out of the car and started to walk inside. We turned around and realized that our map lights or reading lights were still on. This was odd as our other lights properly dimmed and turned themselves off within a minute but those still stayed on.
So next, we did what any shade tree mechanic does and pulled out our cell phone and started to Google. We saw a number of posts with the same issue even one post about someone who was a little tipsy. People should never post when not in there right mind. It took us a while and a number of different tries but we figured it out. Armed with this knowledge we decided to create a write up an article for others on 2011 Ford Mustang GT Map or reading Lights Won’t Turn Off.
How we actually fixed it!
After some trial and error we figured out there must be some electronics that are tied to the latch. As some suggested slamming the door or shutting it a few times didn’t work for us. So we pulled out our trusty mag flash light and started to look at the latch. We didn’t see any excessive wear or any build up so we took our trusty WD-40 can and shot a good spray in there. We let it sit for a few minutes to let its magic begin and then we shut the door yet still nothing. Next we opened the door got in and started the car and shut the door and bingo!! The door shut and the map or reading lights did not stay on. We tested this out a number of times before we felt confident that we had fixed it.
